  • Through Baptism we start our journey within the Church, we are led into the mystery of the Church.

What is Baptism?

  • Water
  • The word Baptism: Triple Immersion
  • Baptism in the Bible
  • The baptismal font is tomb and a womb: We die to our old way of life and are born again into a new way of life, in Christ.
  • “”For as many as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. ” (Gal 3:27).

Why do we Baptise?

  • Baptism is necessary for the Life in Christ .
  • Mystery of Baptism transforms the entire person—body and soul
  • The  Mystery of Baptism  was established by Christ Himself
  • Baptism is not an intellectual exercise, but a living experience
  • For this reason, infants are also baptised in the Orthodox Church
  • Baptism involves a life of turning to God
  • Baptism unites the believer with Christ and His Church

What happens during the Baptism service?

  • Before the Baptism of Infants: 1st Day; 3rd Day and Fortieth Day Prayers
  • The Baptism Service has three parts
    • Catechesis and Exorcism
    • The Baptism Proper
    • The Mystery of Chrismation

What happens during Chrismation?

  • Marked for the Kingdom
  • Belonging
  • Gifts of the Spirit
